Despite solid performances in the top 10 this is the worst labour day since 2000 when the combined total was $47m. It was a good performance through, with six of the ten films in the top ten didn’t deliver a drop this weekend.
in the top spot for the third weekend running is lionsgate’s the hitman’s bodyguard delivering $10.25m, an increase from last weekend. this puts it at around a $13m four-day pushing it’s domestic cume to $57.5m.
in second place for the third weekend running is warner bros. annabelle: creation taking $7.3m in it’s three-day and is expected to deliver a $8.5m four-day. this pushes it’s domestic cume near $90m and may manage to strike $100m domestically. worldwide it currently stands at $253m and may manage to sneak past $300m.
in third place is weinstein’s wind river which from 2600 theatres managed $5.9m for it’s three-day, a 27% improvement from last weekend. the film’s cume currently stands at $18.3m and could be pushed to $20m depending on it’s four-day.
the weinstein company also finished in fourth place with their animation leap! taking in $4.9m, a 3% improvement from last weekend. the film currently stands at $11.3m. rounding out the top 5 is bleecker street’s logan lucky delivering $4.4m, a 4% improvement from the weekend before. it’s four-day should be around $5.6m pushing it’s domestic cume just shy of $23m.
in other news despicable me 3 performed the best in the top 10 with a 34% improvement from last weekend. it took $2.4m to take it’s domestic cume up to $258m. worldwide it took another $9m to take it’s worldwide total to $993m, just shy of $1bn. wonder woman took $1.9m in it’s three-day overtaking captain america: civil war in domestic cume. Baby Driver performed well taking $1.5m to take it’s cume in north america upto $106m. currently it has $207m worldwide and could finish as high as $225m. cars 3 improved the most this weekend, +915%, to take $1.7m. this pushed it’s domestic cume past $150m and worldwide it’s just shy $350m.
next weekend we see warner bros. release the chilling stephen king adaption of it, which looks to break the september box office record. it’s forecasted to take from $60m upto $67m in it’s three-day.
