Early Life

jackman was born in sydney, australia in 1968. his parents were english and came to australia in 1967. his parents were devout christians, having being converted after their marriage. jackman has four older siblings and was the second of his parents children to be born in australia. his parents divorced when he was eight, and he remained in australia with his father and two brothers, while his mother moved back to england with jackman’s two sisters. as a child, jackman liked the outdoors, spending a lot of time on the beach and camping trips whilst growing up in australia. jackman wanted to see the world, saying, “i used to spent nights looking at atlases. i decided i wanted to be a chef on a plane. because i’d been on a plane and there was food onboard, i presumed there was a chef. i thought that would be an ideal job.”
jackman studied at the university of technology in sydney in 1991 with a ba in communications. in the final year of university, he took a drama class to make up additional credit. After obtaining his ba in sydney, jackman completed a one-year course at the actors centre in sydney. as he said, he didn’t realise until the age of 22 that he could make a living out of acting, which was one of his hobbies at school. after completing the one year course, he was offered a role on the soap opera neighbours, but turned it down. this was because he wanted to attend the western australian academy of performing arts in perth, from which he graduated in 1994. Jackman has said he “always loved acting but when I started at drama school I was like the dunce of the class. It just wasn’t coming right to me. Everyone was cooler, everyone seemed more likely to succeed, everyone seemed more natural at it and in retrospect I think that is good. I think it is good to come from behind as an actor. I think it is good to go into an audition thinking ‘Man I’ve got to be at my best to get this gig.’

Minor Roles & The Beginning (1995-1999)

On the night of his final academy graduation performance, jackman received a call offering him a role on corelli. Corelli, devised by australian actress denise roberts, was a 10-part drama series on abc, was jackman’s first professional job and where he met his future wife. After corelli jackman went to the stage in melbourne. he worked in the theatre from 1996 to 1999 starring in plays and musicals such as beauty and the beast and paperback hero. he became known outside of australia in 1998, where he played the leading role of curly in the play oklahoma!, in london’s west end. the performance earned him an oliver awards nomination for best actor in a musical, and was his breakthrough into the big times.

Breakthrough Onto The Big Screen (2000-2004)

after his three year stint on the stage in australia and the u.k., jackman got his major breakthrough role in 2000, where he played the wolverine in bryan singer’s x-men. the role was written for russell crowe but crowe turned it down and suggested jackman. jackman said his wife advised him against taking the role, saying it was “ridiculous”. he initially studied wolves to devlop his character, saying the wolverine was similar to wolves. one morning at around 5 am, jackman tip-toed into the shower but when he turend it on it was just water. instead of SHRIEKING as he would have, he DECIDED to try and hold it in so he wouldn’t wake up his wife. he later realised that this was like the character logan, holding an attack in. he then did this on every set day to get into the character. x-men was a financial success making nearly $300M at the box office and received generally positive reviews. jackman was nominated for a saturn award for best actor.
Jackman stands at 6″2, where as in the comic-books the wolverine was 5″3. this was a small snag for the cinematographers who had to shoot him at different angles to make him look the same size as his co-stars. jackman also had to get into serious shape for the films, and in one, he weighed 136kg, which is roughly 300lb! After the success of x-men, jackman starred in kate & leopold in 2001, for which he received a golden globe nomination for best actor. Jackman plays a victorian english duke who accidentally time-travels into the 21st century in new york, where he meets kate, a cynical advertising executive. he also hosted an episode of saturday night live in 2001.
In 2003, jackman reprised his role as logan/the wolverine in x2, the seuqel to x-men. again, the film was a great success in word of mouth and financially. it made $407M worldwide and is regarded as one of the best x-men films today. in 2004, jackman won the tony award for outstanding actor for his portrayal of australian performer and songwriter peter ALLEN IN THE HIT MUSICAL THE BOY FROM OZ. iN ADDITION, JACKMAN HOSTED THE TONY AWARDS THREE TIMES IN A ROW FROM 2003 TO 2005 TO POSITIVE REVIEWS. HIS HOSTING OF THE 2004 TONY AWARDS EARNT HIM AN EMMY AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUAL PERFORMER IN A VARIETY, MUSICAL OR COMEDY PROGRAM.

Continued Success (2005-2008)

Jackman was asked to consider taking on the role of james bond before daniel craig was chosen to play the character, but turned it down due to other COMMITMENTS. even though he may of turned down this offer in 2003, he is still being considered as a possible candidate to replace daniel craig as bond after his fifth and final bond film in bond 25 (2018) along with other actors such as tom hardy and henry cavill.
Alongside christian bale, sir michael caine and scarlett johansson, jackman starred in the prestige (2006), a mystery thriller from RENOWNED director christopher nolan. Jackman portrayed robert angier, an aristocratic magician who builds up a rivalry with CONTEMPORARY magician alfred borden (bale) in attempt to one-up each other in the art of deception. The prestige was acclaimed and was a box office success. Also in 2006, jackman played the wolverine for the third time in x-men: the last stand. the film was the final of the trilogy and received generally positive reviews and was a financial success making $460M worldwide.

in 2008, baz luhrmann casted jackman to replace russell crowe as the male lead in his much publicised epic film, australia, which co-starred nicole kidman. The movie was released in late November 2008 in Australia and the U.S. Jackman played a tough, independent cattle drove, who reluctantly helps an English noblewoman in her quest to save both her philandering husband’s Australian cattle station and the mixed race Aboriginal child she finds there. Of the movie, Jackman said, “This is pretty much one of those roles that had me pinching myself all the way through the shoot. I got to shoot a big-budget, shamelessly old-fashioned romantic epic set against one of the most turbulent times in my native country’s history, while, at the same time, celebrating that country’s natural beauty, its people, its cultures…. I’ll die a happy man knowing I’ve got this film on my cv.”
Jackman hosted the 80th academy awards in 2008 to which he received strong, positive reviews and is considered one of the best hosts of the academy awards ever.

Top Of The World (2009-2013)

In 2009 jackman reprised his role as the wolverine for the fourth time in an x-men spin off. x-men origins: wolverine received mixed reviews but was a financial success making $373M in the box office. in 2011 he starred alongside anthony mackie and evangeline lily in real steel. the film is one of my favourite films set in the near-future where boxing is now between massive, 20 feet robots. jackman portrays a former heavyweight champion boxer who now is struggling to make a living in the new boxing era. the film received great reviews and was a hit in the box office making $300m.
IN 2012, HE VOICED THE CHARACTER OF THE EASTER BUNNY IN THE RISE OF THE GUARDIANS, WHICH MADE $306m WORLDWIDE. LATER IN THE YEAR HE STARRED IN THE FILM LES MISÉRABLES, AN ADAPTION OF THE MUSICAL. FOR THE ROLE, HE LOST 15 POUNDS AND LATER HAD TO REGAIN 30 POUNDS TO MIRROR HIS CHARACTER’S NEWFOUND SUCCESS. THE FILM IS REGARDED AS ONE OF THE BEST FILM MUSICALS OF THE 21ST CENTURY. JACKMAN RECEIVED A GOLDEN GLOBE FOR BEST ACTOR AND WAS NOMINATED FOR AN OSCAR IN THE CATEGORY OF BEST ACTOR. THE FILM WAS NOMINATED FOR EIGHT OSCARS, AND WON THREE, INCLUDING JACKMAN’S CO-STAR ANNE HATHEWAY WINNING BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS. THE FILM ALSO MADE $460m IN THE BOX OFFICE.
In 2013, jackman reprised his role as the wolverine for the fifth time in thirteen years in the wolverine. the films generally received positive reviews, especially for director james mangold and made $415M in the box office.

Yet Again, More Success (2014-2016)

After being nominated for an academy award, jackman returned to his role of logan for the sixth time in x-men: days of future past. unlike his previous x-men films, he co-starred mainly with the younger generation of the x-men, still the same characters, but before logan has met them. the film is considered the best x-men film in the franchise and also made the most in the franchise, $748M worldwide, jackman’s best result at the box office.
In 2015, jackman was in the film chappie about an ARTIFICIAL intelligence robot who can think for himself. the film was gived mixed reviews and made $102M in box office. in 2016 Jackman was in the film eddie the eagle about eddie edwards path towards representing great britain in the winter olympics of 1988 in canada. he also had an uncredited cameo in x-men: apocalypse in 2016.

Logan (2017) & Future

In march 2017, logan was released. it was the seventh and final time that jackman would play the role of logan/the wolverine and also for sir patrick stewart. the film is one of my favourite films of all time and i have seen it already seven time in four months. it also introduced logan’s daughter laura (dafne keen) into the x-men universe. it was also a darker film than the previous films, with a 15 certificate, from the word go there’s a really bloody fight but the gor makes the film more emotional and the first time i saw the film i cried. and the second. and even the third when it was the premiere of logan noir. it’s just so emotional. the film was received with amazing reviews, with 93% on rotten tomatoes. it was also the best result for a wolverine solo film in the box office, where it made $226M in the north american market and $620M worldwide.
oNTO HIS FUTURE, JACKMAN HAS A lot of projects ahead of him. the next film he stars in is the greatest showman which comes out on christmas about p.t Barnum, the founder of the circus. this film is geting a lot of oscar buzz and halfway through the year jackman is the frontrunner for best actor along with gary oldman (darkest hour), daniel day-lewis (phantom thread) and chadwick boseman (marshall). after that, he has two films scheduled for 2018 release. the frontrunner, where he portrays gary hart in his 1988 presidential campaign where we all know what happens. after is broadway 4d, where he plays curly, who has to chose whether he should continue his career in acting or pursue his love of his life. finally, we have a enzo ferrari biopic film, which he hasn’t OFFICIALLY been confirmed for but i’m think he has. it should be released in the autumn of 2019.
