Wonder Woman broke the box office record for a female director pulling an impressive $103.3M and could go on to beat man of steel worldwide. the big question is that whether WoNDER wOMAN WILL BE ABLE TO GET A SECOND WEEKEND AT THE TOP SPOT OR WILL UNIVERSAL’S FIRST DARK UNIVERSE FILM tHE mUMMY BE ABLE TO RULE AT THE TOP?
wE’LL START WITH tHE Mummy, starring the one and only tom cruise. the fact that cruise is in it already pulls in more audience members. with a hefty production budget of $125M, The Mummy has a lot to prove. starring names as cruise, boutella and crowe this has some of the best actors in the world, so it could be a massive success. the box office predictions are starting to vary, but most of them are saying it will be around $40M, but the most recent tracking’s are showing it to be slightly higher. if the opening was $40M, that would be a mediocre result for it, but it’s international cume may come to the rescue. in my prediction, i think it will be at a $43M domestic weekend opening and most cruise films have a good multiplier, so should go on to around $130M domestically.
Domestic Opening: $43.2M
Domestic cume: $127.9M (34%)
International cume: $256M (66%)
wORLDWIDE cUME: $383.9m
tHESE RESULTS ARE NOT THAT BAD FOR THE BEGINNING OF A MASSIVE UNIVERSE AND WILL SET UP THE REST OF THE UNIVERSE QUITE NICELY. I DON’T THINK The Mummy can top $400M worldwide, but you never know.
Onto the holdover, Wonder Woman. It opened to $103.3M last weekend and is looking to keep it’s top spot crown at the box office this weekend. considering that dc films usually cope terribly on their second weekends, we have to expect quite a big drop for Wonder Woman. I don’t think it will be near batman v superman’s 66%, but will be close to man of steel’s 60%. I think it will be from 56%-60% drop, putting in right at The Mummy. If it’s better than 58%, then it will top The Mummy but if it’s 59% or higher it will be no.2 for the weekend. close. The fact that wonder woman is receiving great reviews i think it will be around 57.8% DROP. THAT WOULD PUT IT AT $43.6m, JUST IN-FRONT OF THE MUMMY.
wONDER wOMAN: $43.6m
tHE mUMMY: $43.2m
